Srinagar, Jun 11 (JKNS): The Fee Fixation and Regulation Committee (FFRC) of Jammu and Kashmir has issued a stern warning to private schools against charging admission fees in violation of the Jammu and Kashmir School Education Act, 2002 (as amended), stating that strict action will be taken against erring institutions.

According to a circular issued by Justice Sunil Hali, Chairperson of the FFRC, a copy of which lies with the news agency JKNS, complaints from parents and students are pouring in, alleging that several private schools continue to charge admission fees unlawfully.

“It has come to the notice of the Committee that despite repeated directions, some private schools are collecting admission fees often without issuing proper receipts and bypassing the formal banking channels to conceal these illegal transactions,” the circular reads.

The circular refers to Section 20E (1) of the J&K School Education Act, which explicitly states: “Private schools shall not charge in any manner, any other fee including admission fee or any amount, by whatever name called than the fee mentioned above.”

The FFRC has termed such actions a grave violation of the law and has called for strict legal proceedings against schools found guilty of such practices.

To curb this exploitation, the Committee has urged parents and students to report such incidents via email at [email protected] or call 0194-4034841 / 0191-2956990. The FFRC has assured that the identity of complainants will remain confidential. (JKNS)
