Srinagar, Jun 7 (JKNS): After offering Eid prayers at Dargah Hazratbal in Srinagar alongside National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah and other family members, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed regret over the continued restrictions on offering Eid prayers at Srinagar’s historic Jama Masjid.

“I hope this Eid brings better days ahead for the Muslims of India and the world. I hope it brings peace and strengthens the bonds of brotherhood,” Omar Abdullah told reporters, as per the news agency JKNS.

“While we are celebrating Eid, I am personally saddened that once again, permission was denied to offer prayers at Srinagar’s iconic Jama Masjid,” the Chief Minister said. “I do not know the reasons behind these decisions, but we must learn to trust our people.”

Referring to the public outrage following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, he added, “These are the same people who came out to peacefully protest against the Pahalgam terrorist attack. One day, the government will have to place trust in its citizens.”

Government should consider allowing congregational prayers in the historic Jama Masjid.” (JKNS)
