Srinagar: The Sumo stand in Yaripora area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district has been severely affected by waterlogging caused due to the overflow of a nearby canal, locals said on Sunday.

Speaking to news agency JKNS, a group of residents said that the absence of a proper embankment along the canal is leading to frequent overflows, which flood the Sumo stand and surrounding areas. “Due to the lack of a protective bund, water flows directly into the bus stand and nearby localities, causing serious difficulties for commuters and residents,” one of the locals said.

The residents requested the government to take immediate steps to prevent further damage and inconvenience.

They also acknowledged the efforts made by senior CPI(M) leader and Kulgam MLA Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami in the past few months and appealed to him to raise the issue with the concerned authorities.

“This is a genuine problem that needs urgent attention. We hope Tarigami Sahib, who has done considerable work in recent months, will take up the matter with the administration,” the locals added.

The residents urged the concerned authorities to carry out the necessary embankment work to stop future overflows and ensure the area remains accessible, especially during peak travel hours. (JKNS)
