POONCH: As part of “Operation SHIELD”- a comprehensive initiative to strengthen disaster preparedness and emergency response, a series of awareness and training activities were successfully conducted by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Poonch.
One of the key highlights was a blood donation camp organized here at District Hospital, where personnel from SDRF, Jammu & Kashmir Police, Indian Army, and members of the civil society voluntarily donated blood. The event reflected strong community spirit and a shared commitment to saving lives during emergencies.
At the Sports Stadium Poonch, a mega mock drill and evacuation exercise was carried out, showcasing simulated disaster scenarios and coordinated response actions. This demonstration emphasized the synergy between departments and agencies in managing real life emergency situations. Participants included the Revenue Department, Police, SDRF, Health Department, Fire & Emergency Services, NSS, NCC, ABDAMITRA volunteers, SDRF Wardens and other allied teams.
In line with the broader outreach of Operation SHIELD, a similar program was also held in Mendhar, ensuring that border and remote areas are equally equipped and sensitized toward disaster readiness.
The entire process was supervised by ACR Mohd Sayeed and attended by DySP SDRF along with officials from the District Administration and representatives from civil society.
The Deputy Commissioner, while overseeing the operations, commended the collaborative efforts of all departments and community members. He emphasized the importance of such initiatives in building a responsive and resilient disaster management system, especially in a geographically and strategically sensitive region like Poonch.
The District Administration remains dedicated to conducting regular preparedness exercises to safeguard lives and property, ensuring readiness to face both natural and manmade calamities.
