Jammu, May 30 (JKNS): Police in Doda district have registered an FIR against Aam Aadmi Party’s J&K president and sitting MLA Mehraj Malik for allegedly threatening and abusing a female doctor on social media.

The FIR was registered following a detailed written complaint submitted by an associate professor of a government medical college, accusing Malik of defamation, criminal intimidation, and outraging her modesty through gendered abuse and threats.

“In a series of deeply disturbing instances, Malik has used social media platforms to publicly issue threats and make abusive, gendered, and derogatory remarks against me,” the doctor wrote in her complaint accessed by news agency JKNS.

She alleged that Malik had used phrases like ‘ghaseetunga’ (will drag you) and ‘will strip you naked’, targeting her dignity and safety.

“These are not mere words they are direct threats to my dignity, safety, and professional integrity as a female doctor serving in a government hospital,” she said, urging authorities to take action under relevant laws.

The complainant also pointed out that Malik allegedly barged into the labour room of the hospital with his supporters while livestreaming on social media, violating patient privacy and hospital protocols. “This not only compromised the privacy of female patients but also created a threatening environment for staff and patients,” she said.

In her statement, the doctor further accused the MLA of mocking her with remarks like, “This hospital doesn’t belong to your father,” which she called insensitive, especially as her father had passed away over a decade ago.

Police officials in Doda confirmed that an FIR has been registered and that investigations are underway. (JKNS)
