The visit comes as an all-party delegation from India briefed US officials on Operation Sindoor and on Pakistan’s role in fomenting cross-border terrorism.

The visit also comes as India and the US are firming up a trade deal.

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal was in the US last week for his second meeting with US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick in Washington to discuss the proposed bilateral trade agreement currently being negotiated between the two sides.

According to reports, US officials are also likely to visit India for the next round of talks on the proposed interim trade deal.

In the interim trade deal, New Delhi is pushing for full exemption from the 26 per cent reciprocal tariff on Indian goods.

The US on April 2 imposed an additional 26 per cent reciprocal tariff on Indian goods but suspended it for 90 days till July 9. However, the 10 per cent baseline tariff imposed by America remains in place.
