Baramulla: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, on Monday handed over the keys of two newly procured water tanker vehicles to the Jal Shakti Department, Division Baramulla.
A brief flagging-off ceremony was held at the DC Office Complex in Baramulla, during which the two vehicles were officially inducted into the fleet of the Jal Shakti Department.
Additional District Development Commissioner Baramulla, Joint Director Planning, Senior Engineer and Executive Engineer Jal Shakti Department and other officers were present during the flag-off ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, DC said that the two water tankers, with capacities of 9,000 and 6,000 litres respectively, have been procured at a cost of Rs. 55 lakh. The procurement has been made possible through the award money received from NITI Aayog under the Aspirational District Programme.
DC further said that these water tankers will greatly enhance the department’s capacity to address drinking water scarcity, particularly in areas where piped water supply under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) is yet to be commissioned.
He emphasized that the vehicles will be deployed in an efficient manner to ensure that every household in the affected areas gets access to safe and adequate drinking water.
“These tankers are a timely addition, especially with the onset of the summer months, when water demand typically rises. They will help bridge the gap in service delivery in remote and water-deficient pockets of the district,” DC stated.
