DC Shopian chairs NCORD meeting, Calls for collaborative action of stakeholders to tackle drug abuse

Shopian : District Level Narco Coordination (NCORD) meeting was held Thursday at the mini-secretariat here, under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Shishir Gupta.
On the occasion, department wise action taken reports were assessed, and directions were issued to strengthen the fight against drug abuse. DC emphasized the critical role of departments, including police, drug control, revenue and others in combating the rising menace of drug abuse, and directed the departments to take more stringent measures against the menace.
He also stressed on the importance of keeping close vigil on poppy cultivation areas and taking strict action against the cultivators besides conducting poppy destruction drives.
While reviewing the issues pertaining to the seizures of narcotic substances, DC instructed taking more strict action against drug peddlers.
The treatment & rehabilitation issues pertaining to the victims of drug abuse through institutional support of Addiction Treatment Facility and Drug De addiction Centre was also discussed.
Other departments were instructed for enhancing counseling services and Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activities to raise awareness about drug abuse, aiming to formulate a comprehensive action plan to curb drug abuse and ensure effective grassroots-level awareness so that the anti-drug message reaches one and all.
ADC, Dr.Zakir Hussain Faaz; ACR, ACD, ASP, Tehsildars, district officers and other concerned officials were present in the meeting.
