Leh Admin Directs Meat Shops to Install Black Glass Panels Within 15 Days

Leh, May 21 (JKNS): The Executive Officer, Municipal Committee, Leh has issued a public order directing all meat shops operating within the jurisdiction of the Municipal Committee, Leh, to install black/tinted glass panels or similar opaque partitions at the front display of their premises.

As per an order a copy of which lies with news agency JKNS reads, The directive is in compliance with public health and sanitation norms under the Jammu & Kashmir Municipal Act, 2000, and is aimed at ensuring that the display and handling of meat are not visible to the public from outside, particularly in market areas and public streets.

The purpose of this measure, as outlined in the order, is to maintain hygienic and sanitary conditions; protect public sensibilities, especially in areas frequented by children, tourists, and the general public; and uphold civic aesthetics while promoting responsible trade practices. The installation of black glass or opaque screening must be completed within 15 days from the issuance of this order.

The order further states that failure to comply within the stipulated period will invite action under relevant provisions of the Municipal Act, which may include imposition of penalties, sealing of the premises, and/or suspension of the trade license. Additionally, meat shop owners are also directed to ensure that all other applicable sanitary and licensing norms are strictly adhered to, failing which further legal and administrative action shall be taken. (JKNS)
