Sopore, May 14 (JKNS): Minister for Horticulture, Production, Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Cooperative and Elections, Javed Ahmad Dar, on Wednesday inaugurated a macadamization project worth Rs 117.63 lakh at Asia’s second-largest Fruit Mandi in Sopore.
The event was attended by MLA Sopore Irshad Rasool Kar, Director Horticulture Gh Jeelani Zargar, ADC Sopore S A Raina (JKAS), and President Fruit Mandi Sopore Fayaz Ahmad Malik, popularly known as Kaka G.
Speaking to media as per news agency JKNS, Minister Javed Ahmad Dar said the project will ease transportation, improve overall infrastructure and benefit thousands of people associated with the fruit industry. “This mandi is the backbone of Kashmir’s horticulture economy, and such initiatives are a step towards empowering growers, transporters and dealers,” he said.
He further informed that another development project worth Rs 20 crore is under process. “This upcoming project will include the beautification of Sopore Fruit Mandi and several other developmental works to uplift the mandi to modern standards,” the minister added.
Locals and fruit traders expressed gratitude towards the minister and said the macadamization was a long-pending demand. “This is a huge relief for transporters, labourers, growers and all those who work at the mandi,” they said. (JKNS)
