DH Bandipora Conducts Complex, Life-Saving C-Hysterectomy

Srinagar : A highly complex and life-saving surgical procedure was successfully carried out at District Hospital Bandipora, marking a first in the hospital’s history.

A female patient, Name withheld, with a history of three previous dilatation and curettage (D&C) procedures and a second lower segment caesarean section (LSCS), was intraoperatively diagnosed with complete placenta previa and placenta accreta—a rare and life-threatening obstetric condition that poses significant risk to both mother and child.

In a critical and time-sensitive response, the medical team performed a caesarean hysterectomy, a highly skilled procedure that resulted in the safe delivery of a healthy baby girl and stabilization of the mother. This is the first such surgery ever performed at District Hospital Bandipora.

The theatre team was led by Dr. Zamir Lone, Consultant Gynaecologist , and included Dr. Sheikh Firdous, DGO, Dr. Bashir Ahmad, Surgeon, Dr. Iqbal Fateh, Anaesthetist, and Mr. Shahid Rasool Theatre Technician and the other OT support team, whose coordinated efforts were instrumental in the successful outcome.

Medical Superintendent District Hospital Bandipora, Dr Masrat Iqbal Wani congratulated the entire team for this exceptional feat, praising their dedication, expertise, and calm under pressure.

He highlighted the surgery as a significant milestone in the hospital’s journey toward advanced maternal and surgical care.

This achievement not only reflects the skill and readiness of the DH Bandipora staff but also establishes new standards for emergency obstetric care in district-level facilities.
