The aim of the exercise is to create awareness among people about rescue preparedness in case of an attack and enhance the readiness of civil defence mechanism across all states and Union Territories.

The exercise will witness active participation of the district authorities, Home Guard, NCC, NSS and school students and will assess the operational efficiency and coordination of various civil defence measures. The drill is planned upto the village level.

The primary objectives of the mock drill are to assess the effectiveness of air raid warning systems, training of civilians, students and others on the civil defence aspects to protect themselves in the event of hostile attack and to assess the implementation of crash blackout measures.

The objectives also include operationalisation of hotline/radio communication links with the Indian Air Force, to test the functionality of control rooms and shadow control rooms and to evaluate the preparedness of evacuation plans and their execution.

Following the dastardly attack, India has taken several stringent actions against Pakistan, including holding the Indus Water Treaty in abeyance, shutting air space, and closing the Attari border.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had vowed the harshest action against the perpetrators and conspirators of the Pahalgam terror attack.

Twenty six people, including 25 tourists, were killed in the April 22 terror strike.
