New Delhi: In the wake of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, a Parliamentary Standing Committee has flagged concerns over social media influencers and platforms allegedly working against the national interest, which could incite violence.

According to an official memorandum marked as “Most Immediate,” a copy of which lies with news agency JKNS reads, the committee observed that certain content shared post-attack appears to undermine the country’s security atmosphere and seeks urgent intervention.

“The concerned Ministries i.e. Ministry of Electronics and IT and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting are requested to provide contemplated action taken to ban such platforms,” the memo stated.

The panel has cited the provisions of the IT Act 2000 and the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, as the legal framework for such action.

Officials have been asked to submit a detailed report on the matter by May 8, 2025. The soft copy of the response is to be emailed to the committee at [email protected].

The committee has emphasized swift response and asked for the receipt of communication to be formally acknowledged. (JKNS)
