Baramulla, May 3 (JKNS): Students of Government Higher Secondary School Rampora in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district have raised serious concerns over the lack of lecturers, and the non-availability of the promised medical stream despite the school being upgraded nearly five years ago.
Speaking to news agency JKNS, a group of students said, “We dreamed of becoming doctors, but the absence of a medical stream shattered those dreams. There are no lecturers here to teach us, and we don’t even have a principal to address our issues.”
They said the school was upgraded to Higher Secondary level in 2019, yet no subject-specific lecturers have been posted for the science stream. “The infrastructure exists, but without lecturers, it’s of no use,” another student said.
Students also revealed that many of them cleared their 10th and 12th board exams without any private tuition. “We don’t have the resources or avenues for private schooling or coaching. Whatever we learned was only at this school and now with no teaching faculty, we’re left with nothing,” one of them said.
The school is located 25 kilometers from the main town, leaving students with no alternative but to rely on this institution. Currently, only the Arts stream is available, and even that offers limited subjects. “We are left with just Political Science, Education, Physical Education, Urdu, and English. These are not choices, but compulsions,” the students added.
Local residents have backed the students’ appeal, urging the Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) to take urgent action. They said the prolonged neglect of the institution is depriving rural students of equal educational opportunities and putting their futures at risk. (JKNS)
