Jammu: Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma is all set to take over as new Army Commander of strategic Udhampur-based Northern Command.
Official sources said that Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, who currently is at Army Headquarters as Deputy Chief of Army Staff, Strategy is expected to replace Lieutenant General M V Suchindra Kumar as new Army Commander.
Lt Gen Suchindra Kumar is attaining superannuation on Apr 30.
Notably, the Army’s Northern Command is a strategically important ‘operational’ outfit, with the Line of Control in the West and Ladakh sharing borders with the Chinese People’s Liberation Army in the East.
The world’s highest battlefield, Siachen Glacier, is also part of the Northern Command.
Lt Gen Pratik Sharma was commissioned in the 2nd Madras Regiment. Upon getting promoted to Brigadier, he also commanded 80 Infantry Brigade at Jammu and Kashmir.
As a Major General, he was appointed as GOC 25 Infantry Division and Director General DG Information Warfare.
He has also served as Director General Military Operations and Corps Commander 2 Corps.
