DIPR Pulwama hosts Mahjoor Dayce

Pulwama: A mega function was held on Thursay at Mahjoor Memorial Govt Boys Higher Secondary School Pulwama to pay tribute to the legendary poet of Kashmir, Peerzada Ghulam Ahmad Mehjoor—widely revered as ‘Shaair-e-Kashmir’.
The event was organised on the occasion of Mahjoor Day to honour his timeless legacy, celebrate his profound contribution to Kashmiri language and literature and reflect upon the social, cultural and philosophical messages embedded in his poetry.
The programme was organised by Department of Information & Public Relations (DIPR) Pulwama in joint collaboration with the JK Mahjoor Foundation and District Cultural Society Pulwama along with special invitation to A. R. Azaad Memorial Foundation.
Peerzada Abdaal Mahjoor, grandson of Peerzada Ghulam Ahmad Mehjoor and President of J&K Mahjoor Foundation, graced the occasion as the chief guest while Dr. Peerzada Farhat Ahmad, ACD Pulwama, also presided over the event as the chief guest, which was also attended by CMO Pulwama, BDO Pulwama.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from renowned poets, literary figures and cultural enthusiasts from across the valley, besides students in large numbers also attended the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Peerzada Abdaal Mahjoor introduced the audience to lesser-known aspects of Mahjoor’s life and informed that work on various projects of Mahjoor is currently underway, with “Kulliyat-e-Mahjoor” expected to be published soon in response to the pressing demand of Public.
He commended the DIPR, Pulwama, along with various literary associations, for their efforts in organising events of cultural and literary importance. During his speech, he highlighted the message of universal brotherhood and peace conveyed by Mahjoor through his poetry.
In his address, Dr. Peerzada Farhat Ahmad highlighted the significance of Pulwama’s intellectual and cultural heritage, emphasizing the need to preserve and promote these traditions for future generations.
Earlier in her welcome address, District Information Officer, Wajeeza expressed her gratitude to the participating poets and literary organisations for their presence. She reiterated DIPR Pulwama’s commitment to preserving the district’s cultural identity by providing platforms that uphold and sustain the district’s rich cultural heritage.
This was followed by a vibrant Mushaira, where noted poets from various parts of the valley presented soulful recitations in Kashmiri, paying rich tributes to Mahjoor and his unmatched contribution to Kashmiri language, culture and identity. Besides, essays and literary lectures focusing on the life and works of Mahjoor were also presented by the eminent literary figures of the district.
A major highlight of the event was the colourful cultural performances where artists melodiously recited Mahjoor’s poetry, which mesmerized and captivated the audience adding vibrant hues to the gathering.
The event culminated with a felicitation ceremony during which participating poets were honoured and mementos along with certificates of appreciation were distributed in recognition of their literary contributions. Besides, as a gesture of respect and appreciation, mementos were also presented to the distinguished guests who graced the occasion with their presence.
