Poonch: District Development Commissioner Vikas Kundal on Thursday conducted an on-site inspection of the snow clearance operations along the historical Mughal Road, assessing the progress made up to Pir ki Gali.
During this crucial visit, DDC Kundal met with Deputy Commissioner Shopian Shishir Gupta to discuss the feasibility of reopening this vital link that connects the Pir Panjal region with the Kashmir Valley. The reopening is essential for local communities, facilitating access and promoting economic activity.
Accompanied by SSP Poonch, SDM Surankote, and officers from BRO, Traffic Police, DC Kundal and his team traveled approximately 43.6 kilometers along the Mughal Road from the Poonch side. He emphasized the urgency of expediting snow clearance efforts to restore access following fresh snowfall on Thursday.
Highlighting the historical significance of the road, DC Kundal directed the executing agency to ensure that the road is made traffic-worthy at the earliest. He also stressed the importance of maintaining safety protocols on slippery and sliding spots prior to the opening of traffic.
“We understand the importance of this road for the residents and businesses in the region,” said DC Kundal. “We are committed to ensuring that the snow clearance operations are completed promptly to facilitate safe travel.”
The Mughal Road is not only a historical route but also serves as a strategic lifeline for the region. Early access to the Kashmir Valley will benefit farmers, traders, and tourists alike, fostering economic growth and enhancing the quality of life for residents of Poonch.
