Srinagar: Following the circulation of a viral video on social media, the Food Safety Team in Srinagar, led by Assistant Commissioner Yameen ul Nabi, inspected a meat shop in the Hazratbal area.

During a broader inspection of the Hazratbal market, several street vendors were found violating key provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, they said.

Officials noted that high-risk food items were being kept in unsafe temperature conditions and were exposed to environmental contaminants.

Seven food business operators (FBOs) were found operating in insanitary and unhygienic conditions, mishandling high-risk food, official said.

Challans are being prepared and will be submitted to the Adjudicating Officer (ADC Srinagar) for legal action under the Food Safety Act, they said.

The Food Safety Team is also working to raise awareness among vendors about food safety rules and proper hygiene practices.

Authorities have warned that strict action will be taken against defaulters who fail to maintain cleanliness, especially those dealing in high-risk foods.

The department is strengthening its surveillance to eliminate unsafe and misbranded food practices across Srinagar. (JKNS)
