DC Kulgam chairs DRSC meet, calls for strict action against traffic violators

DC directs R&B, PMGSY to conduct road safety audits, identify & rectify black/blind spots

Kulgam: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan on Wednesday chaired a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) to review the implementation of the Road Safety Action Plan and deliberate on various measures to improve road safety across the district.
The meeting featured detailed discussions on the Road Safety Act, traffic calming measures, road signage and the rectification of accident-prone spots.
DC reviewed the progress on tasks assigned to various departments in previous meetings and stressed the importance of inter-departmental coordination to strengthen the road safety framework.
Officers briefed the chair on steps taken to rectify black spots, erect crash barriers, and install road signage at critical points.
Active participation from committee members led to meaningful discussions and formulation of strategic measures aimed at enhancing road safety throughout the district.
The DC directed the concerned departments to take strict action against traffic rule violators and emphasized the need for curbing violations effectively.
He instructed ARTO to prepare a comprehensive road safety awareness calendar.
All departments were directed to ensure timely updates on the iRAD (Integrated Road Accident Database) portal.
The DC also instructed the R&B and PMGSY departments to conduct road safety audits, identify black spots and blind spots, and project them for rectification to reduce accident risks.
Furthermore, the MVD and other stakeholders were directed to carry out extensive awareness campaigns across the district.
The DC directed the R&B department to conduct safety audits of major structures and bridges in the district.
Directions were also given to R&B Department to make the approach road to NHW at Qaimoh trafficable by 20-4-2025.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Viqar Ahmad Giri; ACR, Riyaz Ahmad Shah; Executive Engineer R&B, ARTO, DY-SP, officers from Traffic police and other committee members.
