Baramulla: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Minga Sherpa on Wednesday presided over a Block Diwas at Noorkha Block of Boniyar Tehsil, drawing significant public participation.
General public on the occasion flagged-off various developmental concerns and demands with the district administration.
Key issues raised included road connectivity, with demands for macadamization of inner link roads like Chala to Noorkha. Locals also called for the promotion of Vijitop Gagward as a tourist destination and requested construction of tourism infrastructure such as huts. The upgradation of the High School at Bimyar to a Higher Secondary School was strongly advocated to improve access to higher secondary education.
Concerns were also raised regarding drinking water shortages in certain habitations. Locals demanded swift completion of PHE schemes under Jal Jeevan Mission, and also requested the establishment of ration depots in underserved areas.
Healthcare demands included the deployment of a veterinary doctor at Phelipora, as well as an ambulance, lab technician and night staff at PHC Bimyar. Residents further demanded linking of the irrigation pump at Naganari with Ijjara and the development of a local playground.
Responding to the issues, DC issued several on-spot directions to the concerned departments. The Executive Engineer PHE was directed to expedite work on ongoing schemes and ensure that all unconnected habitations are covered in a time-bound manner.
The officers from FCS&CA, were instructed to examine the feasibility and take necessary steps for establishing additional ration stores in the region to meet public needs.
The concerned Zonal Education Officer was asked to process the proposal for upgradation of the High School at Bimyar to Higher Secondary level and submit it for consideration at the appropriate level.
Regarding road development, the DC informed that PMGSY Phase 4 is underway, with DPRs submitted and around 40 roads in Sub Division Uri likely to be approved soon. He directed concerned engineers to prioritize macadamization of roads under (CND) scheme, especially in areas highlighted during the Block Diwas.
DC also stated that the Hilan to Hakhpatri road would be developed to enhance regional tourism potential. On healthcare, he assured that an ambulance will be provided to PHC Bimyar under CSR funding, and other staff-related demands are being reviewed.
Minga Sherpa reiterated the administration’s commitment to inclusive and responsive governance and assured the public that all genuine demands will be addressed with urgency.
