Srinagar: The Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Advocate Abdul Rahim Rather, on Wednesday constituted a House Committee to investigate alleged irregularities in the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) across the Union Territory.

The development came after consistent demands by multiple legislators during the ongoing Assembly session, calling for an impartial probe into the complaints of poor execution and lack of transparency under the water supply scheme.

According to an official notification accessed by JKNS, the committee will be chaired by senior legislator Hasnain Masoodi and will comprise 11 members representing different political parties.

The members include M.Y. Tarigami, Ali Mohammad Dar, Rajiv Jasrotia, Ranbir Singh Pathania, Tanvir Sadiq, Javaid Riyaz (Bedar), Muzaffar Iqbal Khan, Rafiq Ahmad Naik, Arjun Singh Raju, and Iftikhar Ahmad.

The committee has been mandated to examine the planning, execution, and monitoring mechanisms of the Jal Jeevan Mission in Jammu and Kashmir, especially in light of increasing public complaints and alleged discrepancies flagged by MLAs from various districts.

Legislators had earlier raised concern over “politically driven contracts,” incomplete projects, and lack of public accountability in several rural areas, calling the scheme’s implementation “deeply flawed.”

The committee is expected to submit its report to the Speaker after due deliberation and field verification in coming weeks. (JKNS)
