Budgam: A no-confidence motion has been initiated against Nazir Ahmad Khan, the Chairperson of the District Development Council (DDC) in Budgam.

As per news agency JKNS, Thirteen council members had submitted the motion on February 29, 2024, citing Khan’s failure to convene council meetings for over a year and his alleged neglect of duties.

In response to the motion, the Deputy Commissioner of Budgam scheduled a council meeting for April 7, 2025, to deliberate on the matter.

This decision follows a directive from the High Court of J&K and Ladakh, which, on March 29, 2024, instructed the Deputy Commissioner to conclude the no-confidence motion within two weeks.

This development marks the first instance of a no-confidence motion against a DDC chairperson in the region.

Other DDC members said that all 13 members voted against Khan and Khan is no longer DDC Chairman now.

They thanked the court and DC Budgam for taking steps for upholding democracy. (JKNS)
