Jammu: In the aftermath of an objectionable social media post that invited protests from the Muslim community, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday appealed to people to avoid hate mongering as action has been taken in this regard.

“As far as Friday’s Bhaderwah incident regarding the controversial post is concerned, action is already taken, FIR is lodged and proceedings against the accused have been initiated,” Sandeep Mehta, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Doda said.

Asserting that social media is a double-edged sword and can be used positively as well as negatively, the SSP said, “protests were held after the objectionable post went viral but whatever action was required, is taken by the police.”

“And, to prevent unnecessary story cooking, both the communities must cooperate with the police and the administration,” he said and appealed to stay away from the hate mongering and avoid commenting on social media that disturbs communal fabric.

“We have kept a very close eye on the social media and anybody found spreading hate mongering or trying to disturb peace, will be taken to task,” the top cop said.

Protests followed by a partial bandh were observed in the Bhaderwah town of Doda district due to an objectionable social media post.

A member of Shri Sanatan Dharam Sabha Bhaderwah allegedly posted a sensitive content on his social media account, drawing resentment from members of both the communities.
