Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti has criticized the National Conference (NC)-led government in Jammu and Kashmir for its response to the recent transfer of 48 Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS) officers by the Lieutenant Governor’s administration.

Speaking to reporters in Srinagar Mehbooba Mufti as per news agency JKNS labeled the government’s reaction as “spineless,” accusing it of failing to assert its authority and protect the interests of the region’s civil servants.

Mufti expressed concerns that such extensive transfers, executed without consulting the elected government, undermine the democratic framework and autonomy of Jammu and Kashmir’s institutions.

She emphasized that the NC-led administration’s passive stance on this matter reflects a broader pattern of acquiescence to decisions imposed by the central authorities, which, in her view, erodes the region’s self-governance.

This critique aligns with Mufti’s ongoing narrative that the current government is not effectively representing the aspirations and rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

She has previously accused the NC of acting as an extension of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and legitimizing its actions, including the abrogation of Article 370.

In response, the NC has refuted Mufti’s allegations, asserting that they are committed to safeguarding the region’s interests and have been vocal about issues affecting Jammu and Kashmir.

They contend that Mufti’s statements are politically motivated and overlook the efforts made by the NC-led government to address the challenges posed by administrative decisions from the Lieutenant Governor’s office. (JKNS)
