Bandipora: Senior Congress leader and MLA Bandipora, Advocate Nizamuddin Bhat, has expressed serious concerns over the proposed Waqf Amendment Bill, calling it a threat to India’s unity and religious harmony.

Addressing media here as per news agency JKNS Nizamudin Bhat, while addressing a press conference, stated that the amendments could have far-reaching consequences on the administration of Waqf properties.

He said the need to safeguard the interests of stakeholders and ensure transparency in Waqf management.

Bhat warned that any move to alter the existing Waqf structure without wider consultations would create unrest and deepen mistrust among communities.

He urged the government to reconsider the bill and take all stakeholders into confidence before proceeding with the amendments.

The Waqf Amendment Bill, 2025 was tabled in lok sabha today by Kiren Rijiju, sparked widespread debate, with several political leaders and religious organizations opposing the proposed changes, citing concerns over the rights and autonomy of Waqf institutions. (JKNS)
