31 Naxalites, two soldiers killed in Chhattisgarh encounter

Sukma (Chhattisgarh): Sixteen Maoists were killed, and two jawans were injured after a gunfight broke out in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district here on Saturday, an official said.

The injured jawans belonged to the District Reserve Guard (DRG), a unit of the state police.

The case pertains to Upampally of Keralapal police station area. Bodies of 16 Naxals have been recovered. From the manner in which the weapons have been found, it is clear that the slain Naxalites also belong to big cadres.

The encounter is still going on.

The IG said a search operation will be launched after the operation is over. Only then will it be clear how much more damage has been done to the Naxalites. Automatic weapons like INSAS, SLR have also been recovered. The number of Naxals killed is likely to increase.
