Srinagar: The Food Safety Department seized expired food items worth ₹55,000 during a raid at a wholesaler’s premises in Saraf Kadal, Srinagar.

An official told news agency JKNS that the raid was conducted on March 26 at 11:15 AM following a tip-off about expired food products being stocked alongside fresh supplies. The seized items included milk and milk products, some of which had expired as far back as 2018.

The inspection was led by Assistant Commissioner Food Safety Srinagar along with Food Safety Officers Syed Dilpazir, Hakeem Adil, Fayaz Ahmad, and Khalid Bashir. The official added that the Food Business Operator (FBO) failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the presence of expired goods.

The case has been forwarded to the Adjudicating Officer in Srinagar under the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSS Act) for further legal action. The department has warned all Food Business Operators to ensure proper storage of expired items and avoid selling them, or face strict penalties.

Consumers have been urged to report any violations to help maintain food safety standards. (JKNS)
