Jammu: In view of proposal for air connectivity to the Udhampur district, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has framed a committee that will assess on ground situation.

Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh, who is member of Parliament from Kathua constituency, posted on X, “As a follow up to our proposal for an air flight to land in Udhampur, it has been intimated that in principle there is no objection to this proposal.”

The Airports Authority of India has constituted a committee of experts from the aviation sector, the Air Force, as well as professional pilots, who will physically visit Udhampur around the next weekend to assess and work out the implementation of this proposal, he posted.

He further wrote that the committee shall evaluate air traffic, safety protocols, management and other related aspects. This has been conveyed by the office of the Chairman of the AAI.

Earlier in his post, he had said, “We have moved an ambitious proposal to include #Udhampur as an air flight stopover for the new Air India Express flight introduced between Hindon Ghaziabad- #Jammu-Hindon.”

However, there are a number of issues involved and approvals to be sought, also because Udhampur is also like Jammu an Air Force managed airport, but a proposal has been placed on record to have a commercial flight land at Udhampur, if not every day, then at least on certain day / days of the week. Let us hope, our follow-up bears fruit, Dr Singh said.
