Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has constituted a panel led by the Chief Secretary to examine the issues related to the regularisation of casual, seasonal labourers or other workers in the region.
The order comes a week after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced that a committee will be formed to address the issue of regularisation of daily wagers and that a roadmap will be prepared for its presentation in the next budget session.
As per an order issued by the General Administration Department, a copy of which lies with news agency JKNS, sanction has been accorded to the constitution of a committee comprising the Chief Secretary (Chairman), Additional Chief Secretary to the Hon’ble Chief Minister (Member), Administrative Secretary Finance Department (Member), Administrative Secretary General Administration Department (Member Secretary), Administrative Secretary Planning Development and Monitoring Department (Member), and Administrative Secretary Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs (Member). The committee may also co-opt any other member as deemed necessary.
The mandate of the committee is to examine various humanitarian, legal, and financial issues related to the regularisation of these workers in J&K and suggest a comprehensive way forward.
The committee will be serviced by the General Administration Department and has been directed to submit its report within six months, the order reads. (JKNS)
