Ganderbal: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Jatin Kishore, on Monday chaired a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee to review and strategize road safety measures in the district.
The meeting deliberated on key aspects, including the Road Safety Action Plan, Road Safety Act, road signage, and traffic calming measures.
A comprehensive report on road safety and traffic management activities was presented, highlighting the need for interdepartmental coordination to enhance road safety.
The authorities were directed to rectify black spots, erect crash barriers, install road signage, and enforce traffic regulations, particularly in accident-prone areas.
It was informed that black spots have been identified in the district, mostly along the highway from Sumbal to Sonamarg.
Officials from Beacon apprised that short-term measures have been implemented, while proposals for long-term solutions have been submitted to higher authorities for necessary action.
The Superintending Engineer (SE) R&B was instructed to prepare a revised road safety plan within a week for approval.
Additionally, the Traffic Department was directed to ensure strict traffic management in the town, deploy sufficient manpower, and take action against habitual offenders to ease congestion and enhance commuter safety.
The concerned departments were also asked to identify roads merging with the highway and explore the construction of speed breakers at accident-prone locations.
The meeting was attended by SE R&B Circle Ganderbal, CMO, CEO, Executive Engineers of Jal Shakti, R&B, and PMGSY, ARTO, and other committee members.
