Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Iltija Mufti has called for a ban on alcohol in Jammu and Kashmir, terming it a major threat to lives and families, while announcing a signature campaign in support of her party’s liquor ban bill submitted by a PDP MLA.

“Alcohol and drugs are wrecking lives and families in J&K. We must come together to put an end to it before it’s too late,” Iltija said while announcing a signature campaign to gather support for the party’s bill banning alcohol consumption.

 

In a post on X, PDP’s Iltija, as per news agency JKNS, wrote: “Alcohol and drugs are wrecking lives and families in J&K. We must come together to put an end to it before it’s too late. Join me for a signature campaign tomorrow at the PDP office in Srinagar between 11 am – 2 pm to support PDP’s bill on banning alcohol consumption.”

 

It is important to note that three Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs)—Ahsan Pardesi from National Conference (NC), Mir Muhammad Fayaz from PDP, and Sheikh Khursheed from Awami Ittehad Party (AIP)—have submitted private bills seeking a ban on alcohol in Jammu and Kashmir. (JKNS)
