Jammu : Member Legislative Assembly Jammu East Yudhvir Sethi on Monday visited Peer Kho Temple to review preparations for the upcoming Mahashivratri Mela at Peer Kho.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Ansuya Jamwal briefed the MLA on the arrangements being made by the district administration for the mela being held from February 25 to February 28, 2025.
Director Tourism Jammu Vikas Gupta also informed the MLA that the Tourism Department would organise multiple events during the four-day Mela, featuring cultural progra Moreover, Indian-style wrestling matches would also be held during the Mela.
Pertinently, a meeting was earlier convened by the ADC to coordinate preparations for the festival with officers from various departments. Arrangements related to health services, traffic management, security and sanitation were reviewed.
The MLA directed the concerned officer from Jammu Municipal Corporation to ensure cleanliness in and around the temple premises. He instructed the Floriculture Department to carry out elaborate floral decorations to enhance the temple’s festive ambiance. Additionally, he emphasised that the Power Development Department must ensure proper street lighting, particularly along Circular Road, to facilitate the safe movement of pilgrims and visitors during the Mela.
During the review, the MLA also assessed arrangements for other religious events, including the Jhanki on February 25 and festivities at prominent heritage temples like Panjbakhtar temple and Ranbireshwar temple.
Officers present at the meeting included Director Tourism Jammu Vikas Gupta, SP North, Vivek Shekhar, Joint Director Tourism Sunaina Mehta, Tehsildar Jammu Khas Paramdeep Singh, and officers from various other departments, besides members of the Peer Kho Temple Management Committee.
