Inaugurated yesterday by Lt. Governor of J&K Manoj Sinha, the festival captivated audiences with a spectacular lineup of traditional music, dance, and folk theatre performances.
The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Member Legislative Assembly Yudhvir Sethi, who lauded the efforts of JKAACL and the J&K Artists Association for organizing such a vibrant cultural festival that beautifully showcases the artistic traditions of the region. He emphasized the need for continued support to local artists and performers, highlighting how such platforms provide them with the recognition they deserve while also fostering cultural exchange and unity.
Senior Journalist, Sohail Kazmi also addressed the gathering, appreciating the rich diversity of folk music, dance, and theatre presented at the festival. He underscored the importance of preserving and promoting Jammu and Kashmir’s traditional art forms, which have been an integral part of its history and identity. Their presence and words of encouragement reinforced the festival’s role in keeping the region’s cultural heritage alive for future generations.
The day’s performances featured Neeta Adarsh & Group from Ramnagar, presenting the soulful Geetru, followed by Saqib Ahad & Party from Srinagar, mesmerizing the crowd with Chakri. Traditional Kashmiri storytelling came alive through Baba Reshi Folk Theatre and BhandPather artists from Heemal Cultural Society. The Rouf Dance by Lotus Cultural Group and the graceful Dambali Dance by Shkoori Sha Dambali Dance Centre showcased Kashmir’s deep-rooted artistic traditions.
The evening also celebrated Dogri folk dances by Sanjeet Mehra & Group, the unique BhandPather by AlamdarBhagat Theatre from MohriPora, and a stirring Challant performance by GulamRaoolBhagatyar.
