JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir Government today celebrated Safer Internet Day with a comprehensive workshop aimed at promoting cyber security awareness and best practices for a safer digital environment.

The event was inaugurated by Commissioner Secretary Information Technology, Saurabh Bhagat.

The workshop was conducted in hybrid mode, connecting participants from Civil Secretariat Srinagar and Jammu, all districts of the UT, IT department, senior officers from NIC SeMT and other entities.

In his address, the Commissioner Secretary, underscored the importance of cyber security and cyber hygiene practices, particularly in government offices where digital threats are increasingly prevalent. He stressed the necessity of awareness campaigns to educate school and college students, as well as senior citizens, on how to stay vigilant against cyber frauds and online threats.

Following the inaugural session, the participants took a pledge for a safer internet, reinforcing their commitment towards responsible online behavior.

Jaskaran Singh Modi, SIO NIC J&K, provided a detailed overview of Safer Internet and highlighted the theme of the workshop “Together for a Better Internet “encouraging adoption of best practices for online security. He reiterated the significance of collaborative efforts to create a safer digital environment.

The workshop featured an insightful presentation by Anil Kumar Sharma, Senior Director, NIC, who elaborated on cyber hygiene practices and common threats faced by government workplaces and citizens at large. He addressed various risks including phishing, ransomware and data breaches while recommending preventive measures to enhance cyber security.

This was followed by a Digital Well Being Video, which emphasized the importance of maintaining a balanced digital lifestyle and practicing mindful internet usage to prevent cyber threats and digital fatigue.

The event concluded with Jaskaran Singh Modi, SIO NIC J&K, summarizing key cyber hygiene practices, reaffirming the collective responsibility to ensure a safer internet for a better tomorrow. His closing remarks reinforced the need for continued education and implementation of cyber security measures across government offices and public domains.

The workshop successfully engaged the participants from various sectors, making it a significant initiative in strengthening cyber awareness across Jammu and Kashmir. It reaffirmed the government’s commitment towards fostering a secure and resilient digital ecosystem, ensuring that citizens and government entities remain well-protected in an ever-evolving cyber landscape.
