DC Kishtwar reviews drug control, road safety measures, DRCS working at separate meetings

Kishtwar : Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Kumar Shavan on Wednesday reviewed drug control and Road Safety measures in the District at District-Level NCORD Committee and District Road Safety Committee meetings held back to back here on Wednesday.
He also reviewed the working of the District Red Cross Society at a separately held meeting.
While reviewing anti-drug measures, the DC discussed comprehensive strategies and reviewed the implementation of drug de-addiction measures to counter the menace in the district. At the outset, the DC took a detailed appraisal from the concerned members of the NCORD Committee regarding the present scenario of drug-related occurrences, areas of concern, affected age groups, and hotspots of drug abuse in the district.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasized intensifying testing across all educational institutions, public places, and Panchayats, especially in identified hotspots under surveillance.
SSP informed the meeting that police have adopted a comprehensive strategy to tackle the drug problem from both the supply and demand sides, which is vital for containing drug peddling and breaking the supply chain. He also assured stringent action against those involved in the hazardous trade of drugs.
The DC announced hosting of month-long sports activities across all 13 blocks of the district under the aegis of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. Additionally, he directed stakeholders to host awareness camps every Monday in all 156 revenue villages. The DC stressed the need for painting “100% Nasha Mukt” slogans on school boundary walls. He also directed the ATF authorities to submit reports on patients taking medication and conduct periodic surveys of such patients.
A committee was formed, to conduct counseling and awareness programs at project sites. He also warned of strict action on drug abuse at all project sites in the district.
Enforcement agencies, including Police and Excise were instructed to ensure 100% technological surveillance by installing CCTV cameras for monitoring, computerized billing, containment, and mitigation at educational institutions, pharmacies, medical stores, and public spaces.The DC also reviewed the status of screening of blood pressure apparatus distributed to ASHA Workers and AWWs.
While reviewing district road safety, the DC, with a special focus on minimizing road accidents, directed all enforcement agencies to utilize their skills to prevent accidents by conducting document checks, monitoring over speeding and ensuring compliance with traffic rules.
He directed ARTO to collaborate with different stakeholders for awareness and joint enforcement by using speed guns and other advanced equipment besides strict action against overloading and over-speeding, frequent fitness and license checks, health camp activities, the establishment of driving institutes, driver sensitization programs against drug abuse, and general public awareness regarding overloading.
The DC also conducted a detailed review of blind spots, crash barrier installations, and convex mirrors at black spots. He directed BRO authorities to expedite the process.
SSP Kishtwar urged ARTO Kishtwar to conduct random testing of existing license holders.
While reviewing Red Cross activities, the DC emphasized its critical role in saving lives during disasters. He urged participants to amplify public awareness about the society’s contributions. He underscored the need for increased collaboration and support from all sections of society to sustain emergency response efforts and assist those affected by calamities, disasters, and other urgent situations. He encouraged everyone to actively participate in the Red Cross movement. The DC also stressed the need for a comprehensive District Red Cross plan, increased blood donation camps, enhanced hospital services, and first aid training.
The meeting was attended by SSP Kishtwar Javed Iqbal (JKPS), ADC Kishtwar Pawan Kotwal, ACR Kishtwar Idrees Ahmed Lone, ACD Kishtwar Phulail Singh, DSWO Zubair Ahmed, ARTO Kishtwar, CEO Kishtwar, Nodal Officer ATF, and other members.
