Suspected terrorists, Army troops exchange firing in Kathua

Jammu: Security forces early morning on Saturday launched a massive search operation after suspected terrorists and Army troops exchanged firing in the forest area of Billawar in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Official sources here said terrorists ahead of Republic Day celebrations during midnight on Friday reportedly fired upon Army camp in Panchayat Bhatod-Moar area of Billawar, which was effectively retaliated by alert troops.

“A brief exchange of firing took place between suspected terrorists and Army troops,” official sources said.

They said no injury was reported in the firing, adding, “Troops maintaining high degree of alertness 24×7 noticed a suspicious movement near the camp.”

The suspected terrorists, as per reports, fired upon the camp but it was retaliated, they said, adding, “a massive search operation is launched by joint team of Army, Police and paramilitary forces in the area.”

Security is already heightened in the region in view of Republic Day celebrations.
