Poonch : The District Administration Poonch hosted a vibrant event on Thursday to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative, aimed at supporting girls and promoting gender equality. The celebration took place in the Auditorium Hall of Government Degree College.
Organized by the District Social Welfare Department under the supervision of District Social Welfare Officer Wakeel Ahmed Bhat, the event featured Deputy Commissioner Vikas Kundal as the Chief Guest. The gathering included District Education Planning Officer, Chief Medical Officer, AD FCS & CA, the College Vice Principal, along with the officers, officials, and students from numerous educational institutions.
Under the slogan “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao,” the event aimed to combat biases against girls, addressing critical issues such as female foeticide, underage marriages, and gender prejudices. The goal was to raise awareness and foster an environment conducive to the overall development of girls.
The event commenced with the lighting of a lamp by Chief Guest Vikas Kundal, followed by reciting of the National Anthem. Attendees enjoyed a variety of cultural performances, including skits and dances presented by students, all centered on BBBP theme.
The Deputy Commissioner highlighted the significant strides made in women’s education, empowerment, and improvements in child sex ratios over the past decade. The Deputy Commissioner urged all citizens to actively participate in these efforts, reinforcing the programme’s message to protect and empower the girl child.
District Social Welfare Officer Wakeel Ahmed Bhat also addressed the audience, emphasizing the BBBP scheme’s mission to educate citizens against gender bias and enhance welfare services for girls.
The event also featured speeches from various guests and students, further promoting the theme of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao.
