Jammu: A man was shot dead by an unidentified gunmen in Jewel Chowk area in the heart of Jammu city on Tuesday.

Panic gripped on Tuesday afternoon here when unidentified gunmen shot at a man driving a luxurious jeep near Jewel Chowk area here.

Police said that unidentified gunmen (reportedly motorbike borne) fired four bullets at a man driving Thar near V-Mart showroom in B C Road area of Jewel Chowk.

“The critically injured man was rushed to the hospital but was declared as brought dead. Police teams reached the spot and launched a manhunt to identify and trace the gunmen.”

The deceased was identified as Sumit Jandial,37, son of Om Parkash, resident of Ward Number 9,

Vijaypur, district Samba.

“There is no terror angle into the incident but a personal rivalry led to firing,” Anand Jain, ADGP Jammu told reporters.

He said that special teams have been constituted to nab the accused persons.

Police however, is verifying the CCTVs installed at business establishments near the site of incident.
