Srinagar: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar predicted three-day wet weather from Monday with rain and snow over Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.

The MeT office said the weather will remain dry over the plains with the possibility of light rain or snow over the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday.

During January 20 and 21 there is a possibility of light snow at isolated to scattered places while light rain over the plains of Jammu and on January 22 there is a possibility of light to moderate rain over the plains of Jammu and snow at many places of Jammu and Kashmir, it said.

Higher reaches of Chenab valley and Pir Panjal Range may also receive light to moderate Snow.

Another spell of light to moderate rain over the plains of Jammu and snow at many places of Jammu and Kashmir is expected on January 23.

The night temperature rose at many whether stations but recorded below freezing point in Kashmir valley.

Srinagar had a low of -1°C recorded during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday and this was 1.0°C above normal for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir during the period.

Gulmarg recorded a low of -7.8°C against the -8.2°C and remained the coldest place of the valley. The temperature, however, was 2.4°C above normal for the famous ski resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district for the day.

The night temperature at Pahalgam further improved and recorded at-3°C against the –3.4 °C the previous night. This was 3.3°C above normal for the valley of shepherds during the period.

The minimum temperature at the froner Kashmir district of Kupwara slipped to a low of -2.6°C on Sunday against the -1.3°C and this was still 0.3°C above normal for the place during this period of the season.

Kokernag in south Kashmir dropped and recorded at -3.4°C against -2.8°C the previous night and it was 0.1°C above the average for the picnic spot during the period.

The minimum temperature at Qazigund on Srinagar Jammu national highway further improved and recorded at -2.8°C on Sunday against the -2.5°C a day ago and it was 0.3°C above normal for the gateway to Kashmir during the period, the MeT office said.
