Pulwama: In a bid to enhance road safety awareness and mitigate accidents, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pulwama, Basharat Qayoom inaugurated the National Road Safety Month 2025 with a resolute commitment towards achieving zero accident-related mortality.
Addressing a gathering of officials, the DC emphasized the importance of collective efforts to make roads safer for everyone. He highlighted the alarming statistics of road accidents and the need for a comprehensive approach to tackle this issue.
“As we embark on National Road Safety Month, our goal is zero accident-related mortality,” Dr Qayoom said and added, “Each life lost on the road is one too many and we must work together to change this narrative.”
The month-long campaign will feature various activities, including awareness drives, workshops and educational programs aimed at instilling responsible road behavior.
Special emphasis will be placed on educating drivers, pedestrians and cyclists about the importance of adhering to traffic rules and adopting safe practices.
DC announced the implementation of stricter enforcement measures to ensure compliance with traffic regulations. The initiative also involves collaborating with local schools, businesses and community organizations to create a widespread impact.
“We need a paradigm shift in our approach to road safety. It is not just about regulations; it is about fostering a culture of responsibility and vigilance on our roads,” emphasized DC during the event launch.
The National Road Safety Month comes at a critical juncture, aiming to curb the rising trend of road accidents and improve overall road safety infrastructure.
Dr. Qayoom’s vision for zero accident-related mortality reflects a commitment to creating a safer environment for all road users.
Deputy Commissioner took an overall review on the action taken by different stakeholders regrading directions given in last road safety meeting.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, Dr. Basharat Qayoom, handed over a cheque of ₹1 lakh to the legal heir of an accident victim drawn from the Road Safety Fund.
