Year-End: Cyber Police Kashmir Recovers ₹4.72 Crore, Registers 30 FIRs, Resolves 2,277 Cases in 2024

Srinagar: The Cyber Police Kashmir Zone has achieved remarkable milestones in combating online crime in 2024, recovering a total of ₹4.72 crore defrauded from victims of online scams and returning the amount to its rightful owners.

According to a statement issued by Cyber Police Kashmir, a copy of which was accessed by the news agency JKNS, the unit registered 30 FIRs throughout the year, with 10 cases charge-sheeted and submitted to the Hon’ble Courts for judicial determination. The Cyber Police also resolved 577 complaints from the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCCRP) and addressed 1,700 miscellaneous complaints, demonstrating its commitment to public service and grievance redressal.

The statement further mentioned that the Cyber Police took action against 1,833 fake SIM cards involved in online crimes and successfully recovered and restored 150 missing mobile phones, valued at lakhs of rupees, to their rightful owners.

In addition to its operational success, the Cyber Police Kashmir Zone focused on raising public awareness by organizing workshops in educational institutions and government offices. These sessions educated citizens on emerging cyber threats and online safety practices.

“These achievements show the Cyber Police’s comprehensive approach to tackling a wide range of cybercrimes, from financial fraud to social media misuse, reinforcing their mission to protect the digital well-being of citizens and create a safer online environment,” the statement read.

Similarly, SP Cyber Crime Kashmir, Iftikhar Talib, provided details on the rising issue of online gambling across Kashmir, told JKNS a recent case where an individual claimed to have lost ₹90 lakh in a gambling scam.
