Anantnag: The administration of, Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag, today addressed concerns following a viral news report alleging the presence of rodents roaming over patient beds in the hospital.

Top Officials from the administration speaking with the news agency JKNS said the authenticity of the viral photograph circulating on social media is under investigation.

They said the issue is being managed effectively and attributed the problem partly to attendants consuming meals near patient beds and improperly disposing of food waste on the floor.

“A contract for rodent control services was awarded to M/S Bharat Pesticides, effective from August 1, 2024. However, numerous complaints about the firm’s unsatisfactory services led to a show-cause notice being served to them,” the officials said.

They said, to address the situation, the hospital has initiated immediate measures, including trapping rodents inside the premises and preventing further entry. A comprehensive cleaning and disinfection drive is underway, with housekeeping staff working round the clock to maintain cleanliness and hygiene.

“We urge the public to disregard the circulating news report and have faith in our commitment to providing quality healthcare in a safe and clean environment,” they said.—(JKNS).
