Srinagar: Prominent political leaders, including National Conference MP Aga Ruhullah, PDP leaders Waheed ur Rehman Parra and Iltija Mufti, among others staged a protest outside Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s residence in Gupkar, demanding a review of the controversial Reservation Policy in Jammu and Kashmir.

“MP, Ruhullah led a protest march towards the CM’s residence, raising concerns about the reservation policy’s alleged unfairness. He called for a rationalized approach to ensure equitable benefits for all sections of the population,” the accessed by news agency JKNS said.

Pertainly, joining him were several other legislators, including Sheikh Khursheed and Waheed ur Rehman Parra, as well as Iltija Mufti, daughter of PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti. The protest received widespread attention as it highlighted growing discontent among political leaders and the public.

Notably, the controversy stems from a policy introduced by the lieutenant governor-led administration earlier this year. The policy reduced the general category’s share to 40%, despite forming the majority of the population, while increasing reserved categories’ share to 60%.

This shift has sparked widespread criticism from student associations, political leaders, and various organizations, all demanding its revocation.—(JKNS)
