Srinagar/New Delhi, Dec 21 (JKNS): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against two individuals in connection with an arms and explosives seizure case linked to the banned terrorist group Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM) in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The chargesheet, filed before the NIA Special Court in Jammu, names Waheed Ul Zahoor, the driver of the vehicle from which the explosives, arms, and ammunition were recovered, and Mubashir Maqbool Mir, another accused involved in the conspiracy. Both individuals were reportedly in contact with their HM handlers based in Pakistan,” reads a statement issued, a copy of which lies with the news agency JKNS.
It reads as, the seizure occurred on 30th June 2024 at a checkpoint in Machipora, Rashidabad, Baramulla. When security forces signalled Waheed’s vehicle to stop, he attempted to flee but was apprehended. A subsequent search revealed the arms and explosives in his possession.
“During interrogation, Waheed admitted to his association with HM, working as an overground worker (OGW). Further searches at his residence in Mujgung, Srinagar, led to the discovery of more incriminating evidence. The investigation also identified Mubashir Maqbool Mir as a key conspirator, and he was arrested for providing financial support to Waheed,” the statement reads.
It also reads as, the case, registered under RC-6/2024/NIA/JMU, is still under investigation as NIA continues to uncover the full scope of the conspiracy and determine the intended destination of the seized materials.—(JKNS)
