Jammu: Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Dr. Devansh Yadav on Wednesday conducted a whirlwind tour of the Jammu South area to take stock of developmental and sanitation activities being carried out in the area by the Jammu Municipal Corporation.
During the tour, the Commissioner visited various areas, including Trikuta Nagar and Khorana Marble Chowk and assessed the status of roads, lanes, drains, and waste management initiatives.
At Trikuta Nagar (Ward No. 52), the Commissioner began his inspection by closely examining the condition of the local lanes and drainage syste He expressed concern over the clogged drains and directed the concerned authorities to prioritize the cleaning of the same for free flow of water. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a proper drainage system to prevent waterlogging and ensure the safety and convenience of the residents. He also cautioned the local residents about the harmful practice of washing vehicles on blacktopped roads, urging them to refrain from doing so as it causes significant damage to the road surfaces. “The potholes in the drains should be filled promptly to avoid any disruptions in traffic flow and ensure smooth vehicular movement,” he added.
At Khorana Marble Chowk, Dr. Yadav continued his inspection of the drainage infrastructure. He directed the concerned departments to clean debris and waste from deep drains thoroughly and undertake necessary construction work to restore their proper functioning.
Highlighting the importance of community participation, the Commissioner urged the residents to actively participate in keeping their surroundings neat and clean and cooperate with municipal authorities in their efforts to improve the infrastructure and sanitation in Jammu South.
Responding to the demands of locals regarding the construction of lanes and drains, particularly in areas where such infrastructure was either underdeveloped or in poor condition, the Commissioner said that their genuine grievances would be looked into, and necessary actions would be taken to resolve the issues at the earliest.
Among others, Deputy Commissioner (South) Lal Chand, Secretary, Chand Singh, Joint Commissioner (W) Firdous Ahmad Qazi, Health Officer, Dr Vinod Sharma, MVO, Dr Divya Sharma, AFO, Rabia Khan, Executive Engineer Lokesh Gupta, Executive Engineer (E) Simarpal Singh and other senior officers of Jammu Municipal Corporation accompanied the Commissioner during the tour.
