The Mela features a wide array of traditional crafts, artisanal goods, and regional delicacies, offering a unique platform for skilled women artisans and craftspersons to showcase their talents.

Dynamic live demonstrations of crafts such as pottery, grass handicrafts, Basholi art, and intricate Crewel and Sozni embroidery have been the highlight of the event, capturing the spirit of rural artistry and the cultural legacy of the region.

Visitors to the Mela have been treated to a blend of tradition and creativity, with stalls offering exquisite handmade items and a variety of regional culinary delights.

The event has become a focal point for promoting the cultural richness of Jammu and Kashmir, while also fostering economic empowerment for women artisans.

The Ashakari Mela will continue until December 16, providing an enriching experience for all and serving as a testament to the vibrant traditions of Jammu and Kashmir.

Mission Director JKRLM, Dr. Shubhra Sharma, highlighted the empowerment of women artisans through this initiative.

She said, “Platforms like the Ashakari Mela enable women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to display their handcrafted products, connect with the public, and gain confidence. This event provides a glimpse into the vibrant culture of J&K while giving SHG members an opportunity to shine.”

Dr. Sharma also emphasized the dual benefit of the Mela: for visitors, it is a chance to explore and purchase unique handmade items, while for artisans, it serves as a valuable avenue for recognition and economic growth.

The Mela was inaugurated by Principal Secretary, Department of Culture, Suresh Kumar Gupta, along with Secretary, Rural Development Department and Panchayati Raj (RDD&PR), Mohammad Aijaz on Saturday.

Both officials commended the efforts of the artisans and the JKRLM for organizing the event, which not only promotes rural craftsmanship but also strengthens the socio-economic fabric of the region.
