Srinagar: The Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Gulmarg has issued an advisory to ensure safe and hassle-free travel on the Gulmarg-Tangmarg road during the upcoming winter season.

“The measures aim to address challenges caused by slippery roads and heavy snowfall, which often lead to accidents and traffic congestion,” reads an advisory, a copy of which lies with the news agency JKNS.

It reads as follows: The key points of the advisory include restricted vehicle movement, as only 4×4 vehicles and those equipped with anti-skid chains will be permitted to travel between Tangmarg and Gulmarg. This restriction will remain in place until the ice on the road melts.

It reads as follows: To avoid jams and vehicle breakdowns, only light motor vehicles (LMVs) with a seating capacity of 10 or fewer seats are allowed on the route. Vendors registered with the authorities are permitted to install anti-skid chains on vehicles. They must operate in designated parking areas to prevent traffic disruptions. The rate for anti-skid chains has been set at ₹600 per pair.

Additionally, tour operators and private vehicle owners are directed to park only in designated parking areas at Tangmarg to avoid roadside congestion. Coat and boot vendors have been instructed to refrain from crowding the roads to attract tourists, as this causes inconvenience and traffic jams, reads the advisory further.

Moreover, the SDM stressed the importance of adhering to these guidelines to ensure the safety of commuters and tourists during the winter season. For further inquiries, the SDM office can be reached at [email protected].—(JKNS)
