367 vehicles challaned, Rs 4.75 lakh fine collected in Jammu division’s strict enforcement frive: Officials

Jammu: Continuing vigorous enforcement drive against the instances of overloading of Passenger vehicles and other major violations under the Motor Vehicle Act and Central Motor Vehicle Rules, teams of Motor Vehicles Department launched special enforcement drives across Jammu Division.

The drive was conducted under the guidance of Transport Commissioner J&K Bhawani Rakwal and overall supervision of RTO Jammu Pankaj Bhagotra. The MV teams laid Nakas in their respective districts with special focus on checking overcharging and overloading in passenger vehicles, besides urging the drivers to strictly follow traffic regulations for the safety of their own and on – boarded passengers.

During the Enforcement Drive, nearly 5130 vehicles, including Buses, Tippers, School Buses, Mini-Buses, Tourist Buses, Goods Carriers, Tractors etc were checked for Route Permit violations, Overloading, Over speeding, without Seat Belt, without SLD.

As many as 367 vehicles were e-challaned under sections viz a viz 194D-(Without Helmet), 66/192A-(R/P Violations), 190(II)-(Without Pollution), 194A-(Overload Passengers), 179-(Disobedience), 194B-(Without Seat Belt), 177- (General Offence), 146/196-(Without Insurance), 56/192-(Fitness Violations), 184-(Dangerous Driving), Wrong Parking, SLD violations, Unauthorized Alterations, 194 C Triple Riding, 39/192- (R/c violations), 1941A Overhang, Passenger in Goods Vehicle etc.

A fine of Rs. 4.75 lakh (four lakh seventy five Thousand only) was imposed on the violators. Besides 10 Driving licenses were recommended for suspension under various offences. In addition to this, 137 notices were also served to the violators to provide them an opportunity of being heard and initiate subsequent action under rules after completion of notice period.

The enforcement team comprised ARTOs, MVIs and SMVIs besides MVTA of the respective districts.—(JKNS)
