Sriharikota: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to launch the PSLV-C59 rocket here on Wednesday at 4:08 PM from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC-SHAR) in Sriharikota.

The mission, a commercial endeavour by NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), will carry the European Space Agency’s (ESA) Proba-3 spacecraft into a highly elliptical orbit.

This mission offers significant benefits to humanity by advancing solar research, demonstrating precise spacecraft formation flying, and fostering international collaboration between ISRO and ESA. Proba-3 is an In-Orbit Demonstration (IOD) designed to test precise formation flying, a breakthrough technology where two spacecraft maintain a fixed relative position.

The spacecraft consists of the Coronagraph Spacecraft (CSC), which observes the Sun by blocking its bright light, and the Occulter Spacecraft (OSC), which acts as a shield to enhance the CSC’s observations.

Together, they aim to improve the understanding of the Sun and refine space weather predictions, which are crucial for safeguarding satellites and communication systems.

The PSLV-C59 rocket, standing 44.5 metres tall and weighing 320 tonnes at lift-off, is a testament to ISRO’s engineering expertise. It features a four-stage propulsion system, including six strap-on boosters for additional thrust during take-off. The launch further cements ISRO’s reputation as a reliable partner in international space exploration.

Beyond scientific advancements, the mission also provides a boost to India’s growing commercial space sector.

By showcasing cutting-edge technology and precision, it inspires innovation and contributes to broader societal and technological progress.

Live streaming of the launch will be available on ISRO’s official platforms, allowing space enthusiasts worldwide to witness this milestone event. Additional details, including a mission brochure, can be accessed on the ISRO website.
