Karnah: In a press statement, the Indian Army reiterated that ensuring the safety of civilians during snowfall is one of its top priorities. The Army emphasized the importance of coordination and cooperation with military and Beacon authorities while traveling on the Karnah-Kupwara highway.

This statement comes after a video surfaced alleging that a woman was stopped at Sadhna Top. However, the Army clarified that their efforts are always focused on ensuring safety during heavy snowfall at Sadhna Top.

The Chowkibal-Karnah road, which passes through Sadhna Top, experiences heavy snowfall during winter. Since December 2, intermittent snowfall has been reported, prompting the authorities to close the highway for vehicular traffic due to adverse weather conditions.

On December 3, the Army, in collaboration with the Beacon department, began road clearance operations. During this process, a vehicle carrying mortal remains, traveling from Chowkibal to Kupwara, was temporarily halted at Sadhna Pass to ensure the safety of its passengers amidst deteriorating weather conditions. Despite repeated advisories about the risks, the passengers insisted on immediate movement and protested—a situation recorded on video.

Allegations claimed that the vehicle was delayed for two hours. However, the Army clarified that, understanding the sensitivity of the situation, the road was cleared within 35 minutes, and the vehicle was allowed to proceed under Army supervision.

The Army stressed that temporary halts, though inconvenient, are crucial for safeguarding lives in extreme weather. The Army also highlighted its past rescue efforts, where individuals stranded in snow were brought to safety. It urged citizens to understand the necessity of such measures for their protection during challenging weather conditions.
